How to Play Darts 501
501 is the darts game you see on television: count down from 501 to exactly zero, and finish on a double.
The board
| Area | Score |
|---|---|
| Wide segments | The number (1–20) |
| Outer thin ring (double) | Twice the number |
| Inner thin ring (treble) | Three times the number |
| Green ring around the centre | 25 |
| Bull (centre) | 50 (counts as a double) |
| Outside the doubles | 0 |
The top score with three darts is 180: three treble 20s.
Playing 501
- Both players start on 501. Take turns throwing three darts.
- Subtract each turn's score from your total.
- Finish by reaching exactly zero with your last dart in a double (or the bull).
Busts
If a turn would leave you below zero, on 1, or at zero without a double, it's a bust: your score goes back to where the turn started, and it's the other player's go.
Variations on kawu
- 301: a shorter game.
- Straight out: any dart may finish (no double needed).
Playing on kawu
- Click or tap where you want to aim. Darts land near your aim point, not exactly on it.
- When you can finish, the checkout route is shown and the first bed is outlined.
