Plan the beads before the cord
A bead charm feels intentional when its small group is decided before threading. The Beaded Bag Charm uses four wooden beads, each 10–12 mm across with a 3 mm hole, on one 40 cm length of 1 mm waxed cotton cord. Put the beads in a tray so they cannot roll away, and check that the doubled cord passes through every hole before you begin.
Give the ring a clean attachment
Fold the cord at its middle over a 25 mm split ring and pass both free ends through the folded loop to make a snug lark’s head knot. Thread all four beads over the doubled cord, sliding the first bead close to the ring and the others against it. The stopper is a doubled overhand knot: make a loop with both free ends, pass the bundle through twice, and pull it tight beneath the last bead.
- Keep the ring free to pivot while the lark’s head knot is tightened.
- Hold both free ends together as one strand while threading each bead.
- Tug the beads and ring in opposite directions before trimming tails to 2 cm.
Keep the finished charm light enough for its ring and the fabric it will hang from. The plain wooden beads make the knot sequence easy to inspect. If the charm will be a gift, choose bead tones that echo the recipient’s bag or coat. The charm then feels connected to something they already use, while the clean cord keeps the construction easy to repeat.
