Mancala Strategy: 7 Tips
- Open with a free move. With four seeds per pit, your third pit lands its last seed in your store: you go again.
- Count the distance. A pit with exactly as many seeds as steps to your store gives a free move. Look for these first, and play the ones nearest the store first so the others still work.
- Set up captures. An empty pit on your side with a full pit opposite is a capture waiting to happen: keep a pit that can land there.
- Defend your big pits. If your opponent can land in an empty pit opposite your full one, move it, or fill their empty pit.
- Keep the right-hand pits light. Seeds near your store are easy to bank; seeds on the left take longer.
- Hoard for the end. Seeds on your side when your opponent runs out are yours. A big pit near the end can win the game.
- Watch the seed count. With 48 seeds, 25 in your store wins outright.
The computer on hard searches many moves ahead and rarely misses a capture. Play Mancala or read the rules.

With four seeds per pit, sow the third pit from your left: its four seeds end in your store and you move again. Then sow the rightmost pit.
