Snooker Strategy: 7 Tips
- Take the easy ones. Reds near a pocket with a small cut first.
- Play for position. Before each pot, decide where the cue ball should stop for the next one.
- Black and pink after a red. Seven and six points each: worth aiming for when they're on.
- Control the pace. Hard shots send the cue ball wandering, and sometimes into a pocket.
- Play safe when unsure. Touch a ball on gently and leave the cue ball far from the reds.
- Use ball in hand. After an in-off, place the cue ball in the D at the angle you like best.
- Count the points. Late in the frame, know whether the points left are enough to win.
On hard, the computer plays for position and safety. Play snooker or read the rules.
Frequently asked questions
When should you play safe in snooker?
When the pot is risky. A gentle contact that leaves the cue ball tight on a cushion and far from the reds is better than a miss that hands your opponent a chance.
