Golf Solitaire Strategy: 6 Tips
- Plan the whole chain. Every card is visible: before you play, trace how far each possible first card can take you, up and down.
- Keep the columns even. Cards buried deep in a long column are the ones that end your game. When two plays are equal, take from the longer column.
- Kings are dead ends. Without wrapping, only a Queen leads to a King and nothing follows except another Queen. Plan to clear Kings when a Queen is on the waste.
- Change direction. A chain can go 5, 6, 5, 4, 5 … Switching between up and down keeps it alive.
- Count the stock. Seventeen cards start outside the columns; knowing which ranks are left in the stock tells you whether to wait.
- Don't turn a card too early. Every stock card you don't use improves your score if you clear the columns.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good score in Golf solitaire?
Anything under 5 is a good round; clearing all 35 cards (a score of zero or less) is uncommon and very satisfying.
