Worked examples
- Sixes: 18 (three 6s)
- Three of a Kind: 23 (6 + 6 + 6 + 2 + 3)
- Chance: 23
- Twos: 2, Threes: 3
- Four of a Kind, Full House, straights, Five of a Kind: 0
- Small Straight: 30 (3-4-5-6)
- Large Straight: 0 (there is a gap between 1 and 3)
- Chance: 19
- Full House: 25
- Three of a Kind: 19
- Fives: 15, which is exactly par for the upper bonus
- Five of a Kind bonus: +100
- Joker rule: if Fours is open you must take 20 there. If Fours is full, any open lower box. For example, Large Straight scores 40 as a joker and Chance scores 20.
Adding up the total
- Upper total: add Ones to Sixes.
- Upper bonus: add 35 if the upper total is 63 or more. 62 gets nothing.
- Lower total: add the seven lower boxes.
- Five of a Kind bonuses: 100 for each.
- Grand total: upper total + upper bonus + lower total + Five of a Kind bonuses.
Example: upper 66, bonus 35, lower 152, one Five of a Kind bonus 100 → 353.
On kawu all of this is done for you: the score card updates the upper total ("66 / 63"), the bonus and the grand total after every turn.

Frequently asked questions
What is the highest possible Yacht Dice score?
With the Five of a Kind bonus and the Joker rule, the theoretical maximum is 1,575: every turn a five of a kind, scored in the best possible order, with twelve 100-point bonuses. In practice, scores above 400 are rare.
Do Three of a Kind and Four of a Kind count all the dice?
Yes. They score the total of all five dice, not just the matching ones.
Does the upper bonus count toward the grand total?
Yes. Grand total = upper section + upper bonus + lower section + Five of a Kind bonuses.
