How to Play 2048
2048 is a sliding-number puzzle on a 4 × 4 grid. Join equal numbers to make bigger ones, and try to reach the 2048 tile.
How to play
- Swipe (or press an arrow key or W A S D). Every tile slides as far as it can in that direction.
- When two tiles with the same number run into each other, they merge into one with their sum: 2 + 2 = 4, 4 + 4 = 8, and so on.
- A tile can merge only once per move.
- After every move that changes the grid, a new tile appears in a random empty square: usually a 2, sometimes a 4.
- A move that wouldn't change anything doesn't count.
Score and the end
- Each merge adds the new tile's value to your score.
- Make a 2048 tile to win, then keep going if you like.
- The game ends when the grid is full and no two neighbouring tiles match.

Frequently asked questions
Does the game end when I make 2048?
No. Making a 2048 tile is a win, but you can keep playing for a higher score until no move is left.
Can three equal tiles merge at once?
No. Each tile merges once per move. With three 2s in a row, the two nearest the wall you slide toward merge and the third just moves.
