2048 Strategy: 8 Tips to Reach 2048
2048 rewards a steady plan more than quick reactions. New to the game? Read the rules.
1. Pick a corner
Keep your biggest tile in one corner, say bottom left, for the whole game.
2. Build a chain along the edge
Line up tiles in descending order from the corner: 512, 256, 128, 64… so each merge feeds the next.
3. Use mostly two directions
With the corner at bottom left, press mostly ↓ and ←, sometimes →. Avoid ↑: it pulls the big tile out of its corner.
4. Keep the edge row full
A full bottom row can't shift sideways by accident, so the corner tile stays put.
5. Merge small tiles early
Clear 2s and 4s before they scatter around the grid and block your chain.
6. Keep space open
Empty squares are your room to move. A crowded grid ends games.
7. Think one move ahead
Before each move, look at where the new tile could land and what it would block.
8. Use the hint to learn
The hint shows what a careful player would do. Compare it with your choice.
