Binary Puzzle Strategy: 5 Techniques
1. Pairs
Two 1s next to each other mean the cells on both sides are 0 (otherwise there'd be three). The same for two 0s.
2. Gaps
A 1, a blank, then another 1 in a line: the blank must be 0.
3. Count the line
A 6-wide line needs three of each digit. Once it has three 1s, every other cell in it is 0.
4. Avoid the triple when counting
If a line still needs two 1s and two 0s in four blanks, placing them must not create three alike. Try each option in your head: often only one works.
5. The unique-line rule
Near the end, a line with two blanks could be filled two ways. If one way makes it a copy of a finished line, it's the other way.
Frequently asked questions
Where do you start a binary puzzle?
Look for two of the same digit side by side: the cells on either side must be the other digit. Then look for two of the same digit with one gap between them: the gap takes the other digit.
