How to Play Box Pusher
Box Pusher is a puzzle set in a warehouse. You steer a worker who has to push every box onto a goal square. The idea comes from a Japanese computer game of the early 1980s and has become one of the classic puzzle types. Every level here was made by kawu.
The warehouse
- Walls (brick) can't be walked through.
- Goals are the red diamonds on the floor.
- Boxes are the crates. A box standing on a goal turns green and shows a tick.
- The worker is the blue figure.
Each level has as many boxes as goals. Get every box onto a goal (any box on any goal) to finish.
Moving and pushing
- The worker steps one square up, down, left or right.
- Walking into a box pushes it one square, if the square beyond is floor. You can't push a box into a wall or into another box, and you can't push two boxes at once.
- Boxes can never be pulled.
Controls
- Arrow keys or W A S D step and push.
- Tap the square next to the worker to step or push that way, or tap any floor you can reach to walk there by the shortest way.
- The arrow pad under the board does the same on touch screens.
- Undo takes back a step, a push or a whole walk. Undo as often as you like.
Moves and pushes
Every square walked counts as a move; every time a box moves is a push. Each level shows the fewest pushes it can be solved in. Match that to solve it perfectly.
Hints
The hint finds the solution with the fewest pushes from where you are, and shows the next step: a square to walk to or a box to push. If a box is stuck and the level can't be finished any more, the hint tells you to undo.
Frequently asked questions
Can you pull a box in Box Pusher?
No. The worker can only push a box, by walking into it, and only when the square on the other side is empty. That's what makes the puzzle: a box in the wrong place can be impossible to get back.
What does it mean when a box is stuck?
A box pushed into a corner, or against a wall where no goal lies along that wall, can never reach a goal again. Undo the push, or restart the level.
