Colour Flood Strategy: 4 Tips
1. Head for the far corner
The board is finished when your region reaches everything. Growing along the diagonal towards the bottom-right usually covers the most ground.
2. Two moves ahead
For each colour, picture the region after it, then what the best next colour would add. Pick the pair that gains most.
3. Open borders
A colour that touches your region in many separate places is often better than one big patch: it lengthens your border, and a long border absorbs more next time.
4. The endgame
When only two or three colours are left outside your region, count the cells of each. Take them in the order that leaves nothing isolated.
Frequently asked questions
Should I always pick the colour that adds the most cells?
Usually, but not always. A colour that adds slightly fewer cells now can expose a much bigger group for the next move. Look one move further.
