How to Play Crazy Eights
Crazy Eights is the classic shedding game: get rid of your cards by matching the pile, with eights as wild cards.
The deal
Two to four players. Everyone gets eight cards (seven when four play, with two decks). The rest is the stock; its top card is turned over to start the discard pile (an eight is put back).
A turn
- Play a card that matches the top card's suit or rank, or play an eight and name the suit to follow.
- If you can't (or don't want to), draw one card. If it fits, you may play it at once; otherwise your turn ends.
- If the stock is empty and you can't play, you pass.
Winning and scoring
The first player with no cards wins the hand and scores the cards left in everyone else's hand:
| Card | Points |
|---|---|
| Eight | 50 |
| King, Queen, Jack | 10 |
| Ace | 1 |
| Others | face value |
On kawu your points carry over from hand to hand.
Frequently asked questions
What happens when the stock runs out in Crazy Eights?
The discard pile, all but its top card, is shuffled to make a new stock. If there's nothing to shuffle, a player who can't play simply passes.
Can you play an eight on an eight?
Yes. An eight can be played on anything, including another eight, and you name the suit again.
