Dou Dizhu Combinations Explained

This guide lists every combination you can play in Dou Dizhu on kawu, with examples and common invalid plays. For the rest of the rules, see how to play.

Single, pair, triple

Each joker is a single. The two jokers together aren't a pair: they're the rocket.

Triple with a single or a pair

Only the triple counts for comparing: 9 9 9 + 4 beats 8 8 8 + A.

Straight

Five or more singles in a row, 3 to Ace only:

Not valid: J Q K A 2 (contains a 2), 3 4 5 6 8 (gap), 3 4 5 6 (only four).

Pair chain

Three or more pairs in a row, 3 to Ace:

Not valid: 3 3 4 4 (only two pairs), K K A A 2 2 (contains 2s).

Plane and plane with wings

Two or more triples in a row make a plane. Add one single per triple, or one pair per triple, for a plane with wings:

Not valid: 3 3 3 5 5 5 (not in a row), A A A 2 2 2 (contains 2s), 3 3 3 4 4 4 + 5 5 (single wings of the same rank), plane + both jokers (that's the rocket).

Four with two

Four of a kind plus two singles of different ranks, or plus two pairs of different ranks:

Bomb and rocket

• A bomb beats any non-bomb combination. A higher bomb beats a lower one; 2 2 2 2 is the highest ordinary bomb.
• The rocket beats everything.
• Each bomb or rocket played doubles the points for the game.
