How to Play Four in a Row
Four in a Row is a two-player game on an upright grid. You take turns dropping discs into the columns; the first to line up four wins.
The grid
- 7 columns and 6 rows, standing upright.
- One player has Red, the other Yellow. Red goes first.
How to play
- On your turn, choose a column that isn't full and drop one disc into it.
- The disc falls to the lowest empty space in that column.
- The first player with four discs in a line (across, down or diagonally) wins.
- If all 42 spaces fill up with no line of four, the game is a draw.
Playing on kawu
- Click a column (or move with the arrow keys and press Enter) to drop a disc. A faded disc shows where you're about to play.

Frequently asked questions
Who wins Four in a Row with perfect play?
On the standard 7×6 grid, the first player can always win by starting in the centre column and playing perfectly. In real games, mistakes decide almost everything.
Do diagonals count?
Yes. Four in a line across, down or along either diagonal wins.
