How to Play Mosaic
Mosaic (also known as Mosaik or Nurie) is Minesweeper's gentle cousin: every number tells you how many squares in its 3×3 neighbourhood are shaded, including itself. Shade them all and a picture appears.
The rules
- Some squares hold a number from 0 to 9.
- The number counts the shaded squares in the 3×3 block centred on it: the square itself and its up-to-eight neighbours.
- Squares on an edge have blocks of six; corners have blocks of four.
- Shade every square that must be shaded and leave the rest empty.
Playing on kawu
- Tap a square to shade it; tap again for a dot (surely empty); again to clear. Numbers stay visible.
- A number turns red when its block already breaks the count.
- Undo steps back; Hint fixes a wrong square or settles one from a single clue.
- Sizes 6×6, 9×9 and 12×12; the daily puzzle is a 9×9 shared by everyone.

Frequently asked questions
Does the number count its own square?
Yes. A number counts the shaded squares among itself and its neighbours. A numbered square can itself be shaded; the number stays visible on top.
Do Mosaic puzzles ever need guessing?
Not on kawu. Every puzzle is built so that counting alone, clue by clue, finishes the grid. If you are stuck, some clue is ready to use.
