Old Maid Tips: 3 Things Worth Knowing
Old Maid is a game of luck, and that's its charm: a five-year-old can beat anyone. Still, three things are worth knowing.
1. Count the cards
Odd-numbered hands end faster. If you hold an odd number of cards and the player before you holds an even number, you'll be the one drawing the last card more often. There's nothing to do about it; it's just nice to know when to worry.
2. Between people, bluff
With real cards, the player being drawn from arranges their fan. Classic tricks: push the Queen up a little so it looks tempting, or tuck it low. Against kawu's computers the fan is shuffled before every draw, so every card is a fair pick.
3. Be happy with any pair
A pair is a pair. Laying one down gets you closer to safe, and the Old Maid stays where it is. Don't stare at the draw: pick quickly and let the next player sweat.

Frequently asked questions
Is there any strategy in Old Maid?
Very little. Your draw is blind, so the only choices are which card to pick from a fanned hand. Between people, the fun is in bluffing about which card is the Queen.
