Sichuan Mahjong Strategy: 8 Tips
- Void your shortest suit. Fewer tiles to throw away means you start building sooner.
- Void tiles first, then lonely tiles, especially 1s and 9s that don't fit with anything.
- Keep open-ended pairs like 4-5 (two ways to finish) over 1-2 or 3-5.
- Pung with a purpose: only when it brings you closer to ready.
- Go big when the tiles say so: one suit (+2 fan) with a long suit, all pungs or seven pairs with many pairs. Don't break a nearly ready hand for fan.
- Count what's left of the tiles you're waiting for; switch waits if few remain.
- Play safe late: don't feed a player with many melds; tiles already discarded are safer.
- Self-draws pay more: everyone left pays, so don't rush to win on a small discard if you're ready on many tiles.
The computer on easy discards loosely; normal plays toward ready; hard also counts the tiles it has seen. Use Hint when stuck. Play now.
Frequently asked questions
Which suit should I choose as void?
Usually the suit you hold fewest of. If one suit is very long (eight or nine tiles or more), consider going for one suit.
