How to Play Aces Up Solitaire

Aces Up (also called Idiot's Delight or Firing Squad) is the two-minute solitaire: no building, just discarding, with one important choice about empty columns.

Layout

Four columns. Deal one card to each. The rest is the stock, dealt four at a time. Aces are high.

Play

  1. Discard any top card when a higher card of the same suit is the top card of another column.
  2. When a column is empty, move any top card (from a column with two or more cards) into it.
  3. When nothing can be discarded or moved, deal four more cards, one to each column.
  4. When the stock is gone and no play remains, the game ends.

Winning

Discard all 48 non-ace cards so that only the four aces remain.

Playing on kawu

Tap a card to discard it; tap a card and then an empty column to move it; tap the stock to deal. Hint picks the best play; Undo takes any move back. Your best discard count is kept, and the daily deal is shared by everyone.

Then read the Aces Up strategy.

Frequently asked questions

Can I discard an ace?

No. Aces are the highest cards and nothing beats them, so all four aces stay. The win is exactly that: 48 cards gone, four aces left.

Can I move a card from a column with only one card?

No. Moving a lone card into another empty column changes nothing, so only columns with two or more cards may give up their top card.

How often can Aces Up be won?

Roughly one deal in eight with careful play. It is a fast game, so losses sting little; the daily deal lets you compare your discard count with everyone else.
