How to Play Star Battle
Star Battle is a placement puzzle on a grid divided into regions.
The rules
- Place stars so that every row, every column and every region (the outlined, coloured areas) contains exactly the stated number of stars: one on the 6×6 and 8×8 grids, two on the 10×10.
- Stars never touch, not even diagonally.
First deductions
- A region of one or two cells: its star is there, so the cells around it can't have stars.
- A row whose star must lie inside one region: the rest of that region's cells (in other rows) are empty.
- Once a star is placed, dot the eight cells around it.
On kawu
- Tap a cell for a star; tap again for a dot ("no star here"); tap again to clear. Keys: S, D, Backspace.
- Stars that touch, and rows, columns or regions with too many stars, show in red.
- Every puzzle has exactly one solution. The daily puzzle is 8×8.
Frequently asked questions
Can two stars be diagonal to each other in Star Battle?
No. Stars may not touch at all, not even corner to corner.
What does a two-star puzzle mean?
Every row, every column and every region holds exactly two stars instead of one. The no-touching rule still applies.
