How to Play Tents and Trees
Tents and Trees is a campsite puzzle. The trees are given; you pitch the tents.
The rules
- Every tree has exactly one tent, directly beside it: above, below, left or right.
- Every tent belongs to one tree. There are as many tents as trees.
- Tents never touch each other, not even diagonally.
- The numbers on the right and below say how many tents are in each row and column.
First deductions
- A cell with no tree beside it can't hold a tent: mark it grass.
- A row or column with a count of 0 is all grass.
- A tree with only one free cell beside it: that's its tent.
- Once a tent is placed, the eight cells around it are grass.
On kawu
- Tap a cell for a tent; tap again for grass (a note that there's no tent); tap again to clear. Keys: T, G, Backspace.
- Tents that touch, or that have no tree beside them, and rows with too many tents are outlined in red.
- The hint places one tent (or removes a wrong one). The daily puzzle is 8×8.
Frequently asked questions
Can a tent be diagonal to its tree?
No. A tent is directly above, below, left or right of its tree. Diagonal doesn't count.
Can two tents be diagonal to each other?
