Mia Strategy: 5 Tips
Mia is a game of probabilities wrapped in a game of nerve. Rules first? See how to play.
1. Know the odds
Of 36 rolls, 2 are Mia, 6 are doubles and 28 are ordinary. A claim of 65 or lower is reached by a fair number of rolls; a double is reached by only 8 in 36; Mia by 2.
2. Small lies
When you must lie, announce the smallest result that beats the standing one. It is the hardest claim to doubt, and it leaves your opponent the same problem you had.
3. Believe the cheap, challenge the dear
Believing means you must roll and beat the claim. If the claim is easy to beat, believe; if it is a high double, challenge, because your own roll would probably fall short anyway.
4. Mia is double or nothing
Announce Mia only when you have it, or when the opponent is nearly out of lives and a two-life challenge would end the game in your favour.
5. Vary your play
The hard computer tells the truth when it can, occasionally nudges a true roll up one step, and challenges claims it rates below roughly a one-in-three chance. Do not become as predictable.
Frequently asked questions
When should I challenge in Mia?
When the announced result is one that a random roll reaches less than about a third of the time, remembering that believing commits you to rolling and beating it yourself. Doubles and anything above 65 deserve suspicion.
