How to Play Skyscrapers
Skyscrapers is a logic puzzle about a city block seen from the street. Each cell holds a tower, and the numbers round the edge say how many towers can be seen from there.
The rules
- Each row and each column contains every height from 1 to N exactly once (N is the grid size).
- A clue on the edge is the number of towers visible from that spot, looking along the row or column. A tower hides every shorter tower behind it.
- Some puzzles also give a few heights.
Reading a clue
Say a row reads 2, 4, 1, 3 from the left. From the left you see the 2, then the 4; the 1 and 3 are hidden behind the 4. The left clue is 2. From the right you see 3, then 4: the right clue is 2 as well.
On kawu
- Tap a cell, then a height; Shift + digit (or the notes mode) writes a note.
- Cells that repeat a height, or complete a line that doesn't match its clue, are underlined in red.
- Every puzzle has one solution that logic can reach. The hint fills one cell. The daily puzzle is 5×5.
Frequently asked questions
What does a clue of 1 mean in Skyscrapers?
That the tallest tower (height N) stands right next to that clue: it hides everything behind it, so only one tower is seen.
What does a clue equal to the grid size mean?
Every tower is visible, so the heights rise one by one from that edge: 1, 2, 3 … N.
