Skyscrapers Strategy: 6 Techniques
1. Clue 1
The tallest tower is right next to a clue of 1.
2. Clue N
A clue equal to the size lays out the whole line: 1, 2, 3 … N away from the clue.
3. Where can the tallest tower go?
A clue of k means the tallest tower is at least k cells away from that edge. With a clue of 3, the N can't be in the first two cells.
4. Clue 2
With a clue of 2, the first cell is not N, and if the first cell is N−1 the N must come right after it... or anywhere, as long as nothing in between is taller. Combine with the opposite clue.
5. Opposite clues
The two clues on a line add up to at most N+1. When they add to exactly N+1, the tallest tower is in position (left clue) from the left.
6. Finish like sudoku
Once a few towers are placed, use the rows and columns: each height exactly once. Notes help.
