Eight Off Solitaire

FreeCell's ancestor: eight cells, build down in suit, Kings only into empty columns.

How to play

  1. Eight columns of six cards, all face up. The last four cards go into four of the eight free cells.
  2. Build columns down in the same suit: the 7♠ goes on the 8♠.
  3. Any single card may be parked in an empty cell. Only a King, or a run starting with a King, may enter an empty column.
  4. Runs move together as far as the free cells allow. Build the four foundations from Ace to King to win.

About Eight Off Solitaire

Eight columns of six, eight free cells with four cards dealt into them, same-suit building, Kings only in empty columns, a solver-backed hint, unlimited undo and a daily deal.

Eight Off Solitaire: common questions

How is Eight Off different from FreeCell?
Three ways: columns build down in the same suit rather than alternating colours, only a King may start an empty column, and there are eight cells instead of four, four of them already holding a card at the start.
How many cards can I move at once?
One more than the number of empty cells. Empty columns do not add to the limit, because only a King may use them.
Is Eight Off easier than FreeCell?
Usually, yes: with eight cells almost every deal can be won, and same-suit building means any card that fits a foundation can go up at once. The traps are filling your cells and burying a low card under a long same-suit run.
