Tarneeb Strategy: 5 Tips
Tarneeb rewards accurate bidding above all. Rules first? See how to play.
1. Count before you call
With your longest strong suit as trump, count the tricks you can actually take. A failed contract costs the full bid, while an overbid wins nothing extra, so bid what you can make.
2. The stronger hand bids
When your partner has already bid, pass unless you can clearly go higher. The bidder names trump, and the hand with the long suit should choose it.
3. Draw trumps as declarer
Holding the top trumps and length, lead them early so the defenders cannot ruff your side-suit winners later.
4. Defenders: keep trumps, take tricks
Every trick the defenders take raises the chance of a set and counts for them if the contract fails. Keep trumps to ruff the declarer's side winners rather than wasting them early.
5. Watch the score
Near 31, a small made contract wins the game; far behind, a bold bid that happens to make can swing 26 points. Bid to the situation, not just the cards.
The hard computer samples the hidden hands and plays each candidate out to the end of the hand; normal plays sound single-trick tactics; easy plays a random legal card a third of the time.
Frequently asked questions
How many tricks is a hand worth in Tarneeb?
Count sure winners with your best suit as trump: the top trumps, extra trump length beyond three, side aces and guarded kings, plus a trick or two for short side suits you can ruff. Add about two for a partner who has bid, otherwise one and a half, and bid that total when it reaches seven.
