How to Play Train Tracks

Train Tracks is a counting path puzzle: a single railway crosses the grid, and the numbers along the edges tell you how much of it lies in each row and column.

The rules

  1. One track runs from the entrance on one edge to the exit on another, visiting each of its cells once.
  2. The numbers beside the grid give the number of track cells in each row and column.
  3. The track never touches itself: two track cells share a side only where the track runs between them.
  4. Some track cells are given. Every puzzle has exactly one track.

Playing on kawu

Tap a cell to lay track, tap again to mark it blank with a cross, and a third time to clear it. Rails are drawn between adjacent track cells; a count turns grey when its row or column is complete and red when it is exceeded. Sizes 6×6, 7×7 and 8×8; the daily puzzle is 7×7 and timed. Hint fixes a wrong mark first, then lays the next cell from the entrance.

Frequently asked questions

Can the track pass next to itself?

No. In this version two track cells may share a side only where the track actually runs between them, so a cell never has more than two track neighbours. That rule is what makes the counts enough to fix the track.

Which cells are the entrance and exit?

The two given edge cells marked with a dot. The track starts at one and ends at the other; it may not reach the exit until every other track cell has been laid.
