How to play
- The numbers 1 to n² are scrambled on the grid.
- A move turns any 2×2 block a quarter turn, clockwise or anticlockwise.
- Put the numbers back in reading order: 1 at top left, n² at bottom right.
- Tap a dot where four squares meet to turn that block; switch direction with the button above the grid.
About Twiddle
Play Twiddle free online: numbers scrambled on a 3×3, 4×4 or 5×5 grid, any 2×2 block turns a quarter clockwise or anticlockwise, and the goal is reading order again; hints, move counts and a daily puzzle.
Twiddle: common questions
- Can every Twiddle puzzle be solved?
- Yes. Each puzzle is made by scrambling the solved grid with random turns, so turning them back always works, and there are usually much shorter routes.
- Does the orientation of the numbers matter?
- No. Only the positions count. A 6 never turns into a 9 here.
- What is the usual method for Twiddle?
- Solve row by row from the top, then the last two rows column by column from the left, keeping already-solved squares out of the blocks you turn.
